Fluphenazine is a synthetic antipsychotic drug, which is a piperazine derivative of phenothiazine. The mechanism of action of the drug is to block dopamine receptors, mainly D2-type, partly D1, in the mesolimbic structures and substantia nigra of the brain. At the same time, fluphenazine also blocks alpha-adrenoreceptors, but with less activity than dopamine. The use of fluphenazine leads to a pronounced antipsychotic effect, which does not lead to significant depression of the central nervous system, and even leads to a slight activation of the nervous system.
